I think everyone's comments here are valid and make a point, however, the real problem is "not" the economy. What has happened, as we all know, is that we are now in the "electronic age", and millions of Americans are paying their bills "online", using email instead of snail mail, which is naturally cutting back on the need for the use of the USPS. Now whether businesses will continue to think of the USPS "first" with their shipping needs, that's a dicegame. Another reason which highly affects "delivery type" businesses, is the state of our entire nation when it comes to higher crime rates. It's not big secret that people are isolating themselves more and more simply because of the increase of home burglaries, etc. Well, if you're isolating yourself, best way to pay your bills is "electronically". Best way to get something shipped, why stand at the post office if you can get most of it done "electronically". I'm just saying.

the post office is actually downsizing and as it automates over the next two years, it will still be a viable tool for business and home customers. don't forget, the USPS still delivers to each american household daily and there is hardley an american anywhere that doesn't love getting "real mail" instead of vaporized e mails. as a matter of fact, most people don't have time to grovel through worthless e mails, it is the stuff that comes in the mailbox that we all look forward to. as for parcels, the post office actually is cheaper than fedex and ups for costs when sending packages. i am surprised that few people even mention this fact. the post office will even pick up your packages which is nice as it wasn't that long ago that the usps could care less about picking up a package from customers.

all in all, the USPS is a very important part of all of our lives. if that mailbox on my curb ever disappeared, it would be the end of a part of american life we all treasure and actually take for granted, until it was gone. let's hope that never happens. gregg L- morrisville pa.

DUE TO THE ARTICLES I BEEN READING ON THE NRP ASESSEMENT, THE POSTAL SERVICE NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THERE INJURY EMPLOYEES. THE EMPLOYEES GOT HURT ON THE JOB. SOME MAY BE ABLE TO GO BACK TO THERE REGULAR ASSIGMENTS AFTER CARE, AND SOME MAY NOT EVER BE ABLE TO GO BACK DUE TO LONG CARE OF HEALTH ISSUES. IF THE POSTAL SERVICE WANTS THEM TO LEAVE, THEY NEED TO MAKE A SETTLEMENT OFFER OR FIND JOBS FOR THERE INJURY EMPLOYEESES. I WOULD SUBJUST THAT THE PEOPLE START A CLASS ACTION SUIT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

THE USPS WILL NOT GO OUT OF BUSINESS ANYTIME SOO LIKE YOU HEAR ON THE NEWS IT IS JUST THAT THE USPS IS FINALLY TURNING IT SELF AROUND TO ADAPT TO FUTURE CHANGES ABD IT IS DOING THAT. WITHOUT THE HELP OF MR OBAMA, IT WILL SO START BUT IN THE END WE THE USPS WILL SURVIVE THIS RECESSION THAT FORMER PRES. BUSH STARTED 9 YEARS AGO. THE ARTICLE ABOVE SHOULD BE E-MAILED TO PRES. OBAMA AND LET HIM KNOW THAT WE THE USPS LETTER CARRIERS, CLERKS, MAIL HANDLERS, TRUCK DRIVERS, SUPERVISORS, MANAGERS, POSTAL INSPECTORS, AREA MANAGERS, POST MASTERS HAVE VOTED FOR PRES. OBAMA AND WITH OUR VOTE WE ONLU ASK THAT HE DOESN'T FORGET WHO HELP PUT HME IN OFF FOR A CHANGE. CHANGE WILL COME FOR ALL OF US AND IT WILL BE GOOD, BUT IT WILL BE SLOW AND WE WILL SEE IT TOGETHER...THE GOOD TIMES ARE COMING BACK WE JUST HAVE TO BE PATIENT. I SAY THIS BECAUSE I SEE THINGS DIFFERENT FROM MY POINT OF VIEW BEING OPTIMISTIC.
