The Long Island District held an AMP meeting concerning the Western Nassau P&DC on 5/27/09 which is projected to eliminate the outgoing collection mail processing on tour three.
The following are the projected benefits for the USPS to an AMP Consolidation:
- 2.9 Million annual savings for the Long Island District.
- Consolidating tour three will maximize their resources.
- Eliminating duplicate operations in two different plants.
- Reduces the maintenance of idle AFS machines by maximizing other machines.
- 35 total Jobs impacted, which will be excessed to different areas. Not know at this point how many jobs are EAS as of yet.
- All tour three casual jobs will be impacted.
No conclusive date was given as to when the AMP process will be finalized and implemented.
The day after the holiday, Tuesday 5/26, there was only approximately 330 thousand cancelations done; under normal circumstances there should have been approximately 600 thousand.
No disruptions to customer service foreseen.
Rumors of Mid Island closing and the property would be sold, is not accurate at all.
